This site explains what United States civil law says about situations like the one you describe, and it helps you work out what to ask a lawyer. Its whole purpose is to get you to a lawyer knowing which questions matter and which papers to bring.
We are not licensed to practise law in any state. Using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship, nothing you type here is protected by attorney-client privilege, and we do not represent you.
Only a lawyer licensed in your state can tell you what your options actually are.
Models misstate law, miss exceptions, and cite provisions that do not say what the model says they say. Laws also change, and a summary you saved months ago may no longer be right.
Where a page prints a statute, a deadline or a penalty, it also prints the source it came from and the date a person last checked it. Check anything that matters against that source, or with a lawyer, before you rely on it.
The number counts how many of the factors the governing statute turns on appear in what you told us. It does not estimate your chance of winning, what your claim is worth, or what any court would do.
You will not find the words you have a case or you do not have a case anywhere on this site. That is deliberate. Naming a missing element is information. Telling a stranger to drop a claim, or to bring one, is advice, and we are not in a position to give it.
There are fifty states plus the District of Columbia, each with its own law and its own rules about who may say what about that law. A guide is published only for a state whose facts a person has checked against that state's own publisher.
For every other state the page says plainly that it has not been written yet, rather than guessing.
Civil claims expire. If a limitations period runs out, the claim is gone however strong it was. We may tell you a deadline and we may get it wrong. Do not use this site as your only source for a date that matters.
